Salazar off to Commendable Start

February 4, 2009

Not so food related, but since I railed on BHO’s picks for Interior and Agriculture a few posts back, I thought I’d add this update.  This Washington Post article details Secretary Salazar’s impending decision to cancel drilling leases on 110,000 acres of Utah canyonlands.  Chump change as far as total acreage sold off at rock bottom prices at the tail end of 43’s administration, but perhaps a bellweather moment for the Department of the Interior?  The angel over my left shoulder says yes, the devil on my right says SMOKESCREEN!

Interior Secretary Ken Salazar is canceling oil and gas leases on 77 parcels of federal land in Utah, according to sources familiar with the decision, ending a fierce battle over whether to allow energy exploration in the environmentally sensitive area.

The truth, presumably, will be meted out in small doses which will be best kept under the tongue until dissolved.
