Lagunitas Lumpy Gravy Arrives

January 15, 2008

An adjunct to my earlier post about the Lagunitas Brewery’s Kill Ugly Radio brew, the next in their installment series of Frank Zappa inspired projects has arrived.  Named after the awesome (and oft’ underappreciated) LP of the same name, the Lumpy Gravy is a straightforward brown ale.

The beer bottle label.

I haven’t tried it yet…but was overjoyed at even finding it that I had to let y’all know.

Number one n the series was Freak Out, number two was Kill Ugly Radio, and here we are at number three.  No word from Lagunitas as to when they might be issuing number four.

I’m on the lookout for bottles (filled please!) of Freak Out…so if y’all are holdin out on me, hook a brother up.

Cheers!

    [follow-up]

So, the fridge ran dry of typical brews…Boont’s amber, Fat Tire, Trumer pils, etc, so i decided to break out one of the Lumpy Gravy Ales from Lagunitas. Good stuff, actually. A Newcastle-y brown ale, though a bit more red/amber in color than the classic from the bridge over the river Thames. Medium body, and with a decidedly more mellow hopping than one would expect from Lagunitas. It’s worth a try for the non Zappa fans…but is a must for fans of the Barking Pumpkin.
