had a great meal at REDD with tW and a couple of friends visiting from back east. i used to work with richard, and i hadn’t had a chance to dine at Redd since he opened. my friends said (quite earnestly too) that it was the best meal they had ever had.

i thought it was excellent, really, though i was not entirely focused on a remembering everything for a quality review. i was too busy enjoying napa and chatting with friends to remember everything here, but it was a wonderfful meal, and i highly recommend it. the food there can compete with any in the valley.

here are some highlights, but sorry, no pictures.

redd car – some cocktail with forgotten ingredients, though i must have it again.
butternut squash ravioli, diced root veg, hint of truffle.
brioche and smoked salmon toast with potato leek soup.

hamachi sashimi with cucumber, edamame, seaweed, sticky rice
tuna tartare with avocado, cilantro, chili oil, crispy rice
celery root and chestnut-apple soup with apple tempura

skate with pearl onions, spinach, brown butter
tai snapper with oh god i can’t remember
glazed pork belly, apple puree, frisee, soy caramel

liberty duck with chard filled crepes, chocolate sauce
petrale sole with mussels, chorizo, rice, saffron curry nage
butternut squash rav’s as above
veal-ricotta meatballs with linguine and parm reggiano

trio sorbets, passionfruit, mango, creme fraiche & coconut
chocolate-bourbon souffle, peanut butter ice-cream, cookies, caramel
apple fritters, granola? raisin ice-cream? wow. sweet.

‘english toffee’ mignardise with saltine base, toffee, chocolate, and almond slices

again. highly delicious, and highly recommended.
